KARACHI: Expressing concerns over what it called irregularities in the enumeration process, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan reiterated on Sunday that it would not accept the “flawed” population count of Karachi.

The key coalition partner of the Pakistan Democratic Movement-led federal government also expressed its serious reservations over the authenticity of the enumeration process, seeking immediate response from the authorities to fix all census related issues.

A meeting of the coordination committee, chaired by party convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, was held at the temporary headquarters in Bahadurabad in which the MQM- also discussed the current political and economic situation of the country.

“The meeting attended by all coordination committee members discussed the party’s concerns and reservations over the census in detail,” said a statement issued after the meeting.

“The coordination committee expressed its serious concerns on irregularities during the recently concluded census,” it said, adding: “The committee made it clear that census mainly in urban areas of Sindh is the red line for the party and it will not accept any flaw in this crucial matter.”

The MQM-P has been raising its voice over the manner with which population census was conducted in the metropolis due to which the deadline of census was extended multiple times.
