KARACHI: Young man killed in Lyari

KARACHI, Jan 24: A young man was killed in Lyari on Tuesday morning. Police said that Muhammad Hussain was going down the street in Gul Muhammad Lane when he suffered a bullet wound in abdomen. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he breathed his last during treatment.

Police are investigating the case but could not immediately ascertain any motive behind the killing.

FIRE: Three persons suffered burn wounds in an explosion followed by a fire in food shop at Tariq Road on Tuesday.

Chief fire officer said that the explosion occurred due to gas leakage.

He said that three employees of the shop, who suffered burn injuries, were shifted to the Civil Hospital. In the meantime, he said, the fire brigade was employed to extinguish the fire.

They managed to save rest of the shops located in the close proximity, he added.

ARRESTS: Police foiled a dacoity bid and arrested for four bandits in North Nazimabad on Tuesday morning.

Police said that five dacoits barged into the house of Azeem Nizam at C-9, Block T, North Nazimabad. On receiving this information, a police team raided the house.

After a brief encounter, four accused were arrested while their fifth accomplice escaped under the cover of fire. The four suspects were later identified as Javed Iqbal, Arfan Jameel, Naeem Bukhari and Altaf. Police claimed recovery of two TT pistols, eight bullets a motorcycle and stolen goods.

Initial investigation revealed that the bandits were involved in robberies in Joharabad, New Karachi and Gulberg areas.
