RAHIM YAR KHAN: The District Bar Association has vowed to resist tooth and nail the `proposed move’ to handover the building of the Khanpur Cadet College to the Islamia University Bahawalpur to establish its campus there.

DBA president Jam Abdul Majeed Laar accompanied by other office-bearers told a news conference on Thursday it was the only cadet college for the entire Saraiki Wasaib.

He said the KCC building was completed in 12 years and the education department should start classes at the earliest.

He said the students of Rahim Yar Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan had to travel to Sindh and Upper Punjab for admission to cadet colleges.He said the DBA would take all tehsil bars of Sadiqabad, Khanpur and Liaqatpur on board before sending a team to the RYK Deputy Commissioner.

Spread over 250 acres, KCC was completed in 12 years

It is learnt former PML-N MPA Arshad Javed invited IUB VC Dr Athar Mehboob, director IUB’s RYK campus Umair Ashraf, Sheikh Emmad (son of PML-N MNA Sheikh Fayyaz Ahmed) to the site on Tuesday.

Former PPP MPA and PPP tehsil president Mian Aslam, in a press conference on Thursday, said that he strongly condemned the proposed move of the government to handover the KCC building to the Islamia University.

He said he had got approved the KCC project from then PM Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani in 2008 who also released Rs 500 million. He the building was completed at a cost of Rs 1 billion.

He said its initial name was Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Cadet College but the PML-N government changed it.

He said KCC was spread over 250 acres land and had a huge building.
