KARACHI, Jan 22: A strong family is the basis of a stable society as family plays an important role in the development of society. These views were expressed by the Women welfare Minister, Dr Saeeda Malik, while speaking at a function held under the auspices of the JI’s women wing on “Khandan ik saiban”.

A JI woman leader, Attia Nisar, said it was a matter of satisfaction that in spite of differences everyone agreed that the family was a strong unit of society and our identity.

Aisha Munawwar said they were against repression on any women but the movements, which were started in its reaction, had led to other extremes.

Anees Haroon of the Aurat Foundation said it was a wrong perception that NGOs wanted to break the family system. “The family breaks only when elders of the family did not like to have harmony,” she said.

Shama Mithani of the PPP said a girl having good background manifested good values of the family, saying that a girl had an important role in the formation of the family.

Fareeda Moton said karo kari had nothing to do with Islam.

Civil and Judicial Magistrate Shabana Waheed said freedom for women was important but they must be aware of its limits.
