PESHAWAR, Jan 21: NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman on Saturday paid a surprise visit to Nadra’s swift registration centre in Peshawar Cantt. The governor, accompanied by his secretary Arbab Muhammad Arif, apprised himself of the documentation and registration procedures on the spot.

Noting that the swift centre was located in a congested place, the governor said that efforts should be made to relocate the office to a more open place where wider public access could be guaranteed.

Such a move could save many visitors to the Nadra centre from congestion and rush, according to the governor.

“Such offices should be located within the vicinity of public transport stands so that maximum facilities can be extended to the people,” the governor said. He suggested another step to reduce the rush at Nadra’s counters. “The token issuance facility at the counter should also be doubled to ease the rush witnessed at the counters,” he said.

The governor mingled with the public on the occasion and heard their point of view about the working of the swift centre.

Meanwhile, Sadeequllah, deputy director of the Nadra centre, briefed the governor about the working of the centre. According to him, about one-third of the 600 people who visit the centre daily wish to acquire fresh national identity cards.

The governor was told that the entire staff of the centre was well trained and efficient in the performance of their duties.

He was informed that almost 37% of the staff of the Centre was female whose presence proved quite helpful in h andling the problems of female visitors. —APP
