LAHORE: The animal population at the Lahore Zoo Safari has increased with the birth of six lion cubs, a zebra foal and a Samber fawn.

Sharing the good news with Dawn, Zoo Safari Deputy Director Ghulam Rasool said two male and four female loin cubs have been added to the pride at the facility, taking its total strength to 36.

Similarly, he said, with the birth of a foal the number of zebras at the Safari has reached eight, while with the addition of a foal now there are 14 Sambers here.

To a question, he said recently Zoo Safari, under an exchange programme negotiated by the wildlife department, has given four lions to Ayubia National Park.

He said in the next Annual Development Programme (ADP), funds would be allocated to buy exotic birds for the Zoo Safari aviary. However, he said, the Lahore Zoo has recently given 50 peacocks to the aviary.

He said the Safari has plans to add more attractions for the visitors, including a splash pad for children, electric vehicles and golf carts.

He said a brick wall around the boundary fence of the 242-acre Zoo Safari is almost complete.
