TEL AVIV, Jan 19: Thirty people were wounded on Thursday when a Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself at a fast food stand next to Tel Aviv’s former central bus station. No civilians appeared to have been killed in the attack but the body of the bomber had been recovered.

“We have ot taken away any bodies except that of the suicide bomber,” Tel Aviv’s police chief David Tsur told Israeli television.

The radio said the bomber appeared to have entered a food store on Solomon Street in Israel’s commercial capital before blowing himself up.

The area, which is a hang-out for foreign workers, has been the target of a number of suicide attacks in the past, including in Jan 2002 and in January the following year.

It is the first suicide attack since Dec 5 when five Israelis were killed by a bomber from the Islamic Jihad movement.—AFP
