LPG prices to be raised

Published January 20, 2006

LAHORE, Jan 19: LPG marketing companies have decided to once again raise LPG prices by Rs5 per kilo. Market sources said that the retail price of LPG would go up to Rs60 or kilo or so in the next couple of days. It may be recalled that the LPG prices rose to Rs65-70 a kilo on the eve of Eidul Azha on account of extremely cold weather and shortage of LPG supplies.

Rickshaw and taxi drivers alleged that LPG distributors were black-marketing LPG. When contacted, Chairman LPG Distributors Association Irfan Khokhar, however, denied the charge and said: “I invite authorities to inspect our godowns to allay the fears of consumers”.

Avoiding a direct answer to the question as to who was responsible for rise in LPG prices, he said: “The distributors are not to blame for this in any case.”
