QUETTA, Jan 18: President Pervez Musharraf has taken a wise decision on the Kalabagh dam but his approach to Baloch problems totally negated ground realities, says Jamhoori Watan Party’s secretary-general Agha Shahid Hasan Bugti.

Criticizing President Musharraf’s views on the Balochistan issue, he said the three Sardars – Nawab Bugti, Nawab Marri and Sardar Mengal — had never demanded any thing for personal benefit.

Talking to Dawn on Wednesday, he asserted that the fault of the three Sardars was that they had always talked about problems confront the Baloch people.

He said proposals presented by Nawab Bugti and Sardar Mengal to parliamentary committee proved that their suggestions pertained to Baloch people.

The JWP leader claimed that if today the three tribal chiefs decided to allow looting of Balochistan resources then they would become as pious as other pro-establishment chieftains.

He said that the president had changed his stand on Kalabagh dam as not only the people of Sindh and the NWFP but their chief ministers, too, were reluctant to support it. He termed the president’s decision judicious and said insistence on it would have harmed the federation.
