RAWALPINDI: The Government of Pakistan has invoked Article 1 of the Geneva Convention in order to put pressure on India to make her respect the Geneva Conventions while dealing with the question of Pakistani prisoners of war. Under Article 1 … all the 115 countries which are signatories to the Conventions had undertaken “to respect and ensure respect for the Conventions in all circumstances”.

An official spokesman told newsmen here today [April 5] the Government of Pakistan was approaching all the signatories to the Conventions, reminding them of their obligation “to ensure respect for the Conventions in all circumstances”. ... Pakistan has again asked India ... to honour her obligations under the Geneva Conventions at the earliest, the spokesman said. — Special Representative

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Teheran,] twenty-five Pakistani nationals expelled from Iraq arrived at the Iranian frontier post at Khosravi ... the Iranian radio reported... . The Pakistanis were given shelter at the Nasrabad refugee camp... .
