SHANGLA: The Bisham police on Saturday arrested an arms smuggler and seized 25 pistols and 635 cartridges from his possession.

The pistols were recovered from a car near the Power House on the Karakoram Highway, a statement said. The alleged smuggler was identified as Ihsanul Haq, a resident of Bisham. A case was against him.

The statement said the police also arrested 187 suspects and five proclaimed offenders from the different areas of the district during a weeklong search and strike operation, and recovered 15 pistols, 10 rifles and 575 cartridges from their possession. Cases were registered against those keeping illegal arms and ammunition. The rest of the suspects were released after interrogation.

Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector Gohar Ali, who was injured in a traffic accident two weeks ago and died in a Peshawar hospital the other day, was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Alpuri.
