Landslides, snow block KKH

GILGIT, Jan 16: Massive landslides blocked the Karakoram Highway (KKH) on Sunday night, suspending traffic between the Northern Areas and rest of the country.

Officials and local residents said torrential rains triggered landslides in Chilas, Kumela and Pattan areas in the Kohistan district while heavy snowfall made it impassable in Chattar in the Battagram district.

They said that a large number of passengers, cargo vehicles and trade convoys were stranded on the Karakoram Highway in freezing weather.
