BAHAWALNAGAR: A youth, who was tortured by a mob after he was allegedly caught raping a mentally unstable woman in the washrooms of a mosque at Mandi Sadiq Ganj on Tuesday night, has been sent to jail after registration of a case, police said.

As per police sources, the youth, a resident of Mohallah Qasaban lured the woman to the mosque’s washroom and allegedly raped her.

When people, who were offering Traveeh payers in the mosque, heard the woman’s hue and cry, they nabbed the youth.

Meanwhile, a mob gathered at the scene, and people started beating the youth.

On being informed of the incident, a police party rushed to the scene and took the youth in custody after rescuing him from the mob.

District police spokesperson Idnan Ali said a case had been registered against the suspect at Mandi Sadiq Ganj police station on a citizen’s complaint and the suspect had been sent to jail.
