KARACHI: A police constable was killed and another wounded during an exchange of gunfire between law enforcers and street criminals in the Shershah area on Tuesday night.

Keamari SSP Fida Husain Janwari said two armed robbers were trying to loot some motorists at Abbas Chowk. Area people informed the policemen posted at a nearby checkpoint, who rushed to the scene and one of them got hold of a suspect.

However, his accomplice opened indiscriminate fire and the bullets hit Constable Irfan and Assistant Sub-Inspector Mukhtiar. The wounded cops also returned fire and shot the suspects who managed to escape, they added.

Constable Irfan suffered a bullet wound in the abdomen and died on the spot. The ASI suffered bullet wound in the hand and his condition was stated to be out of danger. The slain policeman originally hailed from Kashmore.
