FAISALABAD, Jan 31: The local police booked a priest on the charge of violating ban on loudspeaker here on Thursday.

A policeman deputed for security purposes outside the church in Nasir Colony had reported the misuse of loudspeaker.

Area police have booked priest Victor who is still at large.

FIVE ARRESTED: The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) on Thursday arrested five villagers for power theft from various parts of the district.

Those arrested are Mian Khan and Ghulam Abbas of Chak 622-GB, Altaf Hussain of Garah village, Zulfiqar Ali of Chak 621 and Muhammad Yousaf.

A Fesco spokesman said the drive against power thieves would also be launched in the city especially in industrial and commercial areas to bring down line losses.

ELECTORAL ROLLS: Work on electoral rolls has been completed in Faisalabad, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh districts in accordance with the schedule announced by the government.

This was stated here on Thursday by local deputy Election Commissioner Anwar Saeed.

Giving details, he said that a task force comprising 3,000 men and women had completed work by paying door-to-door visits. They included 2,300 enumerators and 700 supervisors.

Complaint cells were established in the offices of assistant election commissioners of Faisalabad, Jhang and Toba. Action was taken on every complaint, he added.

EXECUTION: A condemned prisoner will be executed in the local district jail on Feb 7.

Liaquat Ali of Toba Tek Singh is involved in a murder case. His mercy appeal has already been rejected by the president.

GANG BUSTED: A local police team on Thursday claimed to have arrested head of a gang involved in issuing fake national identity cards (NICs), driver’s licences and educational certificates from Madina Town.

Acting on a tip-off, the team raided Shaikh Muhammad Amjad’s house in Madina Town and arrested him with dozens of fake identity cards, stamps of government officers and certificates.

Investigation is underway.

TERMINATED: Two police inspectors were terminated from service on the charge of corruption here on Thursday.

DIG terminated inspectors Abdul Majeed Niazi and Haibat Khan. The investigation team has recommended their dismissal.
