ISLAMABAD, Jan 14: Members of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) on Saturday called for a debate on the US missile attack on Damadola village in Bajaur Agency in an adjournment motion submitted before the National Assembly Secretariat.

The motion, a copy of which was obtained by Dawn, has been signed by 13 members and moved under Rule 92 of the Rules and Procedure for Conduct of Business in the National Assembly 1992.

The motion states: “It has been reported in the press that US and allied aircraft dropped eight bombs on Bajaur Agency, some 40 kilometres from the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, killing 18 people, including women and children, and destroying three houses. This latest incident of bombing by foreign forces in Pakistan’s territory has caused grave concern amongst the general public and requires an immediate debate on the issue adjourning the normal proceedings of the house.”

The motion has been signed by MMA chief and federal lawmaker from Nowshera Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Sahibzada Haroonur Rashid from Bajaur Agency, Maulana Mairajuddin from South Waziristan Agency, Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha and Liaquat Baloch from Lahore, Mohammad Laeeque Khan, Asadullah Bhutto and Abdus Sattar Afghani from Karachi, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed from Quetta-cum-Chaghi, Fazle Subhan from Swat, Jamila Ahmed and Inayat Begum from the NWFP, and minority lawmaker Pervez Masih.

It may be mentioned that Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain has already summoned the National Assembly session on Jan 17 on the requisition of the opposition members.

Sources said that MMA members would try to force the speaker to take up the adjournment motion as originally the opposition members had requisitioned the session to discuss oil prices, the operation in Balochistan and construction of Kalabagh dam.
