NEW DELHI, Jan 14: At least 36 Indians were among the hundreds of Muslims who died in a stampede during the pilgrimage to Makkah, an Indian official said on Saturday.

“We have identified 36 Indians so far, but the number is likely to go up as we are still collecting information,” Ausaf Sayeed, the Indian consul-general in Saudi Arabia, said by telephone from Mina.

He said a dozen Indians had been treated for minor injuries in hospitals. Two of the deceased were migrant workers from India.—AFP
