Selfless efforts needed: governor

Published January 11, 2006

PESHAWAR, Jan 10: NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman has said that selfless and dedicated efforts for the wellbeing of the mankind and welfare of society are the need of the hour and “we can meet the challenges of the present age by following this principle”. In a message of felicitation on the eve of Eidul Azha, the governor appreciated the spirit demonstrated by the nation to meet the post-quake situation.

He expressed the confidence that the nation would remember the quake victims and share their suffering on this auspicious occasion.

He said the day “reminds us the great sacrifice offered by Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S) and his son Hazrat Ismail (A.S) which not only embraced acceptance from the Almighty Allah, but also made compulsory for those faithful who have the ability to do so”.

He said the sacred occasion also required “us that we must bring complete unity and solidarity in our ranks and files. Fraternity, brotherhood and vast heartedness should prevail instead of prejudices and narrow mindedness to keep the communal, linguistic and regional differences as well as all types of sectarianism away from us”.

By doing so, he said, “we can devote our energies to eliminate poverty and hunger, promote knowledge and ensure justice for the people suffering from deprivations in society.”—APP
