RAWALPINDI: The cantonment boards of Rawalpindi and Chaklala will start a beautification drive in Saddar and Chaklala Scheme-III besides improving roads and streets.

Station Commander Brigadier Salman Nazar directed the boards to start the beautification drive in their respective areas as soon as possible.

He also directed them to form committees for sanitation and maintenance works. He gave these directives during a meeting held to review the performance of the cantonment boards on Saturday. Cantonment Executive Officers of Rawalpindi and Chaklala Imran Gulzar and Syed Zaki Haider Rizvi and other officials attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, RCCI President Saqib Rafiq, group leader Suhail Altaf, senior Vice President Mohammad Hamza Sarvosh along with a delegation met the station commander to apprise him of the reservations of traders on property tax, operation against encroachments and maintenance of cleanliness.

The station commander assured the businessmen that the civic bodies would carry out all schemes and repair works. He said that the cantonment boards would start a beautification drive in parks and squares and intersections.

He said the business community would be included in the committees to be established to monitor the elimination of encroachments, renovation and beautification drive in the cantonment areas, especially Rawalpindi Saddar and Chaklala Scheme III. He asked the RCCI office-bearers to give names of their representatives for inclusion in the committees.

He said that the role of the traders and shopkeepers was important for cleanliness, encroachments-free bazaars and beautification drive and they must play their role in this regard.
