TAXILA: A senior inspector of Attock police was shown the door after he was found guilty of tampering with his official service record and fraudulently getting promotion.
According to sources in the police department, Inspector Azmat Hayat, a former station house officer (SHO) and ex-incharge of the heinous crime investigation unit, was awarded the major penalty of removal from service for fraudulently getting promotion from sub-inspector to the upper rank by tampering with his service record through alleged convenience of a clerk posted at the district police office.
The sources said the cop while serving as the SHO Jhari Kiss in Hassanabdal had been found guilty of taking a Rs0.5 million bribe for tampering with evidence in a murder case.
The inquiry team awarded him the plenty of “no further promotion” under Police Order 2002.
However, the said official in connivance with a clerk of the police department fraudulently removed the inquiry report and recommendation of the inquiry committee from his file and succeeded in getting promotion to the rank of inspector in December 2022.
Later, another inquiry was conducted in which the fraud and tampering with the record was proved.
A notification was issued by the inspector general of police for the removal from service of the official under Police Order 2002 after conclusion of the inquiry.
