SAHIWAL: The local livestock department has kicked off a vaccination drive for lumpy skin disease.

Present on the occasion was Syed Nadeem Bader, Director General (Production) Provincial Livestock department. He visited villages 96/6-R and 62/4-R and met with progressive and small dairy farmers.

The DG directed field officers and vaccinators to keep the cold chain intact to protect the vaccine.

He said the Sahiwal cow and buffalo were rare breeds in the world and they should be protected from the lumpy skin disease.

It is said a virtual governance system with 9211 number was active and all dairy farmers could use this number for any information.

NRSP SCAM: A recovery officer working under the National Rural Support Programme has been booked for financial embezzlement of Rs. 800,000 with organizational beneficiaries.

Rashid Ali, branch in-charge of PRSP, told Dawn the case was lodged with the Ghala Mandi police on Saturday.

Accused officer Tahir Faird collected money against soft loans from different individuals and organizations but did not deposit it with the official account.

The illegal practice had been going on for the last two years and external auditors of the organization detected it during the current year.

The external verification from different clients also proved Tahir Farid guilty.
