BATTAGRAM: The Allai tehsil of Battagram district has been given the status of a new district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to a notification issued here on Saturday, former chief minister Mahmood Khan, during a visit to Battagram, had announced that Allai would get the district status soon.

When contacted, Taj Muhammad Khan, former special assistant to chief minister on revenue and estate, told Dawn that the district status would herald development in Allai.

He said that after the cabinet’s approval, the government had issued a notification, making Allai another district.

Meanwhile, people welcomed the decision, saying that Allai was left behind in development process. They said that the district status would ensure development of the district and improving the living standard of its people.

It is pertinent to mention here that Allai has great potential in tourism, but lacks basic infrastructure. Its education and health sectors are least developed.
