OKARA, Jan 6: The District Bar Association observed a complete strike on Friday against the killing of a lawyer at the hands of dacoits. Advocate Mubashir Mumtaz, the grandson of former finance minister Yasin Wattoo, was killed by some dacoits on resistance on Deepalpur-Pakpattan Road last week.

The DBA office-bearers demanded early arrest of the accused.

PROTEST: Hundreds of villagers blocked Okara-Faisalabad Road on Friday afternoon when two Elite Force constables in plainclothes manhandled a wagon driver in Chak 38-2R.

Reports said the constables signalled an Okara-bound wagon in front of the Police Lines, but drive Yasin did not stop. The constables after a chase stopped the wagon near Baba Farid Sugar Mills and started beating the driver.

Shahbaz and Irshad asked the constables not to do so, but they called their other colleagues and started beating both the villagers.

Later, hundreds of villagers blocked the road in protest against the incident for more than an hour.

Police highups reached the spot and got the road cleared after holding talks with the protesting villagers.

However, the injured have got a medico-legal certificate from the DHQ Hospital for registration of a case.
