LAHORE: PML-N senior vice-president Maryam Nawaz’s son Junaid Safdar who returned to the country from the United Kingdom on Friday, declared he will not take part in politics.
On his arrival at the Allama Iqbal International Airport, he was received by a few PML-N workers. From the airport, he left for Jati Umra residence of the Sharifs.
Though there were speculations that Junaid had returned to assist her mother after her elevation to the rank of senior vice president of the party, he categorically denied having such plans, saying he had no interest in politics “at least for now”.
“I have moved to Pakistan purely to be of service to my parents, family and community. I will not be participating in any political activity, nor have I any interest in politics for now,” Junaid said in a social media post.
Sources in the PML-N said Maryam’s son would be active in politics once her mother fully established her control over the party. Recently, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif appointed Ms Nawaz as ‘senior vice president and chief organiser’ of the party.
Maryam Nawaz, currently in Switzerland reportedly for a minor surgery, will return to Pakistan in the third week of January, according to Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb.
