LAHORE: Maryam Nawaz, the PML-N’s newly-appointed senior vice president, said on Wednesday she would adopt “modern techniques” to make her party stronger.

“I will visit & meet party office-bearers and workers across Pak to effectively fulfil this daunting task. We will adopt modern techniques and make improvements where needed to ensure PML-N remains best equipped to continue successfully serving the people of Pakistan,” Ms Nawaz tweeted after she was elevated in the party ranks.

In a notification issued on Tuesday, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif appointed vice president Maryam as ‘senior vice president and chief organiser’ of the party with immediate effect. Earlier, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was the sole senior vice president of the party.

Maryam Nawaz, who has been in London for over three months, further said she was looking forward to working with her party colleagues to organise and strengthen PML-N.

“I firmly believe that only PML-N has the capacity to deliver and develop Pakistan to its fullest potential,” she claimed.

Talking to Dawn, a PML-N leader from Punjab termed Maryam’s elevation a clear message from Nawaz Sharif to the ‘Shehbaz camp’ that she, and not the incumbent premier, would succeed him, and the influence of Shehbaz Sharif and his son, Hamza Shehbaz, in party matters would be curtailed in the days to come.
