Religious scholar shot dead

SHEIKHUPURA, Jan 4: Noted religious scholar Sufi Muhammad Boota was shot dead by unidentified assailants near Mujahidnagar locality city area on the Jandiala Road early on Wednesday. Reports said Sufi Boota was coming to the Jamia Al-Farooqia Masjid in Mujahidnagar to lead Fajr prayers when some armed men sprayed him with volley of bullets and escaped. He breathed his last while lying in a pool of blood on the Jandiala Road.

The motive behind the incident could not be ascertained till last reports came in. The B-Division police, however, launched investigation and hunt for the suspects.

Religious scholars condemned the incident and described it as height of lawlessness in the city. They demanded that the police should apprehend the killers at the earliest. — Correspondent
