DADU: Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that wheat flour is in big demand across the province and efforts are being made to meet it. He claimed that flour rate had gone high due to a shortage following floods but the price had now been brought under control.

Speaking to the media during his visit to Bhan Syedabad on Sunday, the CM said stalls had been set up to ensure supply of wheat flour to end consumers at Rs65 a kilo.

“Strict directives have been issued to all deputy commissioners to take action against profiteers wherever they are found charging a higher rate from consumers,” he said while replying to a question.

He said 350,000 10-kg bags of flour were provided to the stalls daily to overcome the shortage and control the price.

In reply to another question, Mr Shah held out the assurance that the second phase of local government elections in Sindh would be held as scheduled for January 15.

About rehabilitation of flood-affected people, he said the process would be started soon and they would get the cash relief to rebuild their destroyed houses shortly. He said his government would also start repair and reconstruction of damaged roads and other civic infrastructure at the earliest.

Pakistan Peoples Party believed in serving the masses and it was discharging this duty efficiently, he said. He pointed out that all possible assistance and relief goods were being provided to those who were displaced by the recent unprecedented rains and flooding. Proper healthcare and other basic facilities were being provided to them at relief camps and the makeshift settlements wherever they had taken shelter, he added.

MNA Sardar Sikandar Ali Rahpoto and Syed Asif Ali Shah accompanied the CM in his visit.

Hyderabad Commissioner Bilal Ahmed Memon, DIG Syed Pir Mohammad Shah, Jamshoro DC retired Captain Fareeduddin Mustafa and SSP Imran Qureshi were also present.
