SANGHAR, Jan 3: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that remodeling of the Mithrao Canal will be carried out at a cost of Rs180 million to provide water to tail-end growers. He also instructed irrigation officials to test soil before the earthwork.

This he said on Tuesday at RD-65 of the Mithrao Canal near Kanhar Mori.

He said there is no shortage of water in the Mithrao Canal. The chief minister said that in the past the earthwork was done only on papers but now this practice would not continue.

When asked about the Kalabagh dam, he said that he had already given his version about it.

The district nazim, Haji Khuda Bux Rajar, informed the chief minister that a large number of lower grade irrigation employees are working but they are not getting their salaries. The chief minister promised to look into the matter.

Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arab was also briefed by the irrigation officials about the ongoing earthwork.

The chief minister said that the4 Chotiari reservoir capacity in 23 feet and by now and it has been filled up to 11 feet. But the system is not in full operational condition because some works are still to be carried out.

Later, the chief minister inspected the site.
