KARACHI, Jan 3: Karachi will face 40-MGD water shortage as a 72-inch diameter rising main, out of seven rising mains supplying water to the city, burst due to sudden failure of power supply to Dhabeji Pumping House.

According to a handout, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has restored water supply to the city from six rising mains of Dhabeji Pumping House, while KWSB MD Brig Iftikhar Haider directed the engineers to repair the affected line by Wednesday evening.

Brig Iftikhar Haider also inspected the repair works of the rising main and overlooked the works for about eight hours.

The 72-inch diameter line of Dhabeji Pumping House Phase–III burst due to back surge in the line as power supply to the pumping house suddenly interrupted at 8:10am on Tuesday. KWSB MD reached the pumping house soon after receiving the information and issued necessary instructions to the engineers.

The engineers told the MD that at least two days were required to repair the damaged line, but the MD asked them to restore supply by Wednesday evening. Brig Haider also directed the engineers to continue water supply from remaining six rising mains.—PPI
