GUJRAT: The Punjab government has finally appointed Naveedul Islam Virk as the first regular deputy commissioner (DC) of the newly-created Wazirabad district, relieving Gujrat DC of the additional charge of the post.

Mr Virk, a BS-18 officer of Provincial Management Service (PMS) had earlier been serving as deputy secretary in finance department.

As per a notification issued on Monday by the S&GAD, Mr Virk is posted as Wazirabad DC. A week ago, the provincial government had posted Ashfaq Ahmed Khan, also a BS-18 PMS officer as the additional deputy commissioner revenue Wazirabad, relieving the Gujrat ADCR of the additional charge of the post.

The regular officers are being posted in Wazirabad following sanctioning of these posts by the provincial cabinet and other relevant departments for the new district.

However, Wazirabad still awaits its first regular district police officer, and the additional charge of the post is being held by Gujrat DPO Ghazanfar Shah, for the last couple of months.
