PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency’s commercial banking circle has arrested an Afghan and recovered national and international currency notes from him.

FIA officials said Masiullah, a resident of Nangrahar province, was arrested for being involved in Hundi Hawala business during a raid in Chowk Yadgar area of the provincial capital on Saturday.

The raiding team took the Afghan into custody after he failed to provide solid reason for carrying Rs4.5 million Pakistani currency and AFN1400 [Afghanistan currency], the officials said, adding a case was registered against him.

FIA officials said a similar raid was conducted in Dera Ismail Khan on Thursday, where INR12,000 [Indian currency] was recovered from a local, namely Samad Daud. He was running an illegal money exchange.

They said three persons, namely Mehmood, Imran and Usman Ghani, were arrested from Chowk Yadgar for dealing in currency exchange business. They said Rs5.4 million were recovered from them.
