KARACHI: President Z.A. Bhutto spent most of his day … reviewing various plans for the face-lift of Karachi, followed by an unannounced visit to Liaquatabad, North Karachi, Nazimabad and Golimar as well as a surprise inspection of the country’s premier hospital — Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre. At a meeting presided over by him … a comprehensive report on the ongoing and proposed development projects of KDA and KMC was presented. … Mr Bhutto approved the revised Kehkashan plan of the Karachi Development Authority. … The Kehkashan Scheme will now have a modern boating basin with recreation facilities. … Every building to be constructed in the scheme will have an unobstructed view of the sea. — Staff Reporter

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Karachi,] President Bhutto received a spontaneous ovation from the people of Karachi when he made a two-hour tour of parts of the City. … Throngs of people … chanted welcome slogans and burst into applause as the President’s motorcade went past them. The people raised slogans of “Sadar Bhutto Zindabad” and “Awami Sadar Zindabad”. The President said that his was a people’s Government and was trying to ameliorate the lot of the common man.
