RAWALPINDI: With the twin cities in the grip of cold weather, there still seems to be no end to the spread of dengue virus in both cities as five more patients arrived in the three government-run hospitals in Rawalpindi on Monday.

A total of 17 confirmed dengue patients were admitted to the hospitals including one patient in Holy Family Hospital (HFH), nine in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and seven in District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

As many as 14 patients belong to Rawalpindi district, one is from Islamabad and two patients arrived from Attock.

According to data of the District Health Authority, most patients arrived from New Parian near Satellite Town, Dhoke Naju, Chaklala and I.J. Principal Road.

District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr Anser Ishaq told Dawn that the number of dengue patients reduced in the current week and it was a sign that the anti-dengue campaign was successful.

He said in 2022, a total of 4,760 dengue cases surfaced in Rawalpindi district while 2,477 cases were reported in 2021.

He said dengue larvae were detected in nine indoor areas and three outdoor areas of the city while anti-dengue medicines were sprayed in these areas.
