KARACHI: Activists of Pakistan Peoples Party staged rallies and took out processions across Sindh to mark the 55th foundation day of the party on Wednesday.

The party organised its major power show at Nishtar Park in Karachi where the PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari addressed a sizable gathering. His speech was watched on big screens in other parts of the province as well.

The workers started arriving at the venue in processions from different parts of the city mostly after sunset while a large number had reached there much earlier. Before the leaders’ speeches, the workers, leaders and legislators danced to the tunes of party anthems.

In Hyderabad, PPP workers gathered at a venue on Miran Mohammad Shah road to watch and listen to Bilawal’s speech on a big digital screen.

Senator Maula Bux Chandio spoke at the gathering and said PPP would win in Hyderabad and there were no differences within the party. Those who believed in integrity and prosperity of the country would have to join PPP, he said.

The party’s local leaders and legislators said that a jiyala would become mayor of Hyderabad. People wanted to see PPP chairman as next prime minister, they said.

In Badin, PPP leaders and workers celebrated the party’s foundation at the party office where provincial minister Mohammad Ismail Rahu and local MNA and MPA paid homage to the party funder and said that elected representatives should celebrate the coming year as the year of workers.

In Tangwani, a large number of workers and local leaders cut a cake to celebrate the party’s foundation day.

The leaders said at the programme that Imran Khan’s government had destabilised the country and weakened economy. The country’s development was linked with Bilawal, they said.

In Umerkot, provincial ministers Syed Sardar Shah and Nawab Taimur Talpur, local MPA, MNA and adviser to chief minister said at a ceremony held to mark the party’s foundation day that PPP braved ruthless tortures and conspiracies but it never crossed red lines and harmed the country.
