KARACHI: S.M. Muneer, a senior leader of the business community and chairman of Din Group of Industries, passed away on Monday due to a cardiac arrest.

Funeral prayer will be held after Zuhar at 1:30pm at Al Hamra Mosque on Tuesday.

Mr Muneer always remained at the forefront to resolve the business community’s issues with the government. He attended his last function at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry on Monday. “Mr Muneer came at the function at 12:15pm. He was looking fine and also addressed the businessmen and left the function at 2:30pm,” Kati President Farazur Rahman said, adding that at 8pm the business community heard the shocking news of his passing away.

He said Mr Muneer was the patron-in-chief of Kati and United Businessmen Group. He was also a former chairman of the Trade and Development Authority of Pakistan.

He was also the chairman of social welfare organisation Chiniot Anjuman Islamia which runs hospitals, maternity homes, schools and colleges in Karachi, Faisalabad and Chiniot.

Mr Muneer received Sitara-i-Eisaar and Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2006 and 2007, respectively. He was awarded a lifetime achievement award in 2012 by the president of Pakistan.
