ABBOTTABAD: Rivals shot dead a man and injured six others over a family dispute in Galiyat here on Monday, the police said.

They said the rival families belonged to Tajwal village. They identified the deceased as Dilpizir, 55.

Rescue 1122 teams shifted the injured to Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Hospital. The police registered a case and started investigations.

STUDENT WEEK: Deputy commissioner Tariq Salam Marwat inaugurated a student week in the Comsats University, Abbottabad, on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the theme of the event was ‘Khudi’ (self-respect) to pay tribute to poet and philosopher Dr Mohammad Allama Iqbal.

He also said sports were an integral part of human culture, and such activities helped youth maintain fitness and reduce stress.

He said the event provided a platform to students to learn, cooperate and show their true potential by participating in different activities.

Director Comsats Syed Maroof Shah said Allama Iqbal’s poetry taught self-respect and high moral standards, and carried deep and significant meanings for everyone, especially youth. He said ‘Khudi’ was presented as the attainment of highest moral standards.

AWARNESS SEMINAR: The local election commission office organised series of seminars, workshops and speech competitions in various schools and colleges to create awareness among people about the importance of their participation in the electoral process.

In this regard, a seminar was organised in Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Mirpur.

The theme of the event was ‘stopping the vote, stopping the right’.

On the occasion, district election commissioner Zeeshan Khan said people could send an SMS on 8300 for knowing about accurate registration of vote.

He informed the participants about performance and role of the Election Commission of Pakistan, preparation of voter lists, establishment of polling stations, training of election staff, preparation of election results and voting patterns.
