RAWALPINDI: The City Traffic Police on Sunday removed shipping freight containers placed on the 6th Road flyover before Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) public gathering.

A traffic police spokesman said heavy cranes were used to remove the containers from the flyover to clear the road. “Containers installed on the 6th road flyover are being removed,” he said.

The spokesman said traffic on both sides of the flyover was being diverted under the flyover. Due to the diversion, there was an unusual traffic congestion at Committee Chowk, Chandni Chowk and 6th Road.

All wardens, including in-charge New Town circle, remained busy maintaining the flow of traffic.

In view of the public meeting, there was complete diversion of traffic on both sides of Chandni Chowk towards Islamabad.

Traffic going from Committee Chowk to Chandni Chowk was diverted towards the commercial market due to PTI’s public gathering.

More than 750 traffic police personnel had been deployed during the PTI’s public gathering to maintain flow of traffic on city roads.

Traffic had been diverted to alternative routes in a phased manner.

Additional personnel had been deployed to maintain traffic on alternative routes.
