Wazirabad to have filtration plant

GUJRANWALA, Dec 31: A filtration plant will be installed in Wazirabad to provide clean potable water to citizens while such facility will also be made available at the union council level.

This was stated by Tehsil Nazim and former MPA Chaudhry Nawazish Ali Cheema and Naib Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Yousaf while speaking at a tehsil council meeting here on Saturday.

They said the elimination of encroachments and improvement in the cleanliness were their priorities after shifting of the grain market and police station to outside the city.

They pointed out that vendors and small shopkeepers would be allotted suitable places in markets. Around 90 percent complaints lodged at the Tehsil Nazim office had been resolved, they claimed.

ABDUCTED: A teenaged girl was abducted by two vagabonds from a shrine in Ladheywala Warraich village on Saturday.

Reports said that victim ‘A’ had gone to the shrine along with her brother Sajjad Husain from where accused Shahbaz and Sarfraz took her away to some unknown place by their car.

Police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating.

PMA ELECTION: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) annual election have been completed.

Dr Sardar Riaz Ahmad has been elected president while Dr Sohail Anjum Butt general secretary. They got 192 and 190 votes respectively. The former has the support of Dr Gulzar group while the latter Dr Ibrar group. They defeated Dr Amjad Saeed Mian and Dr Liaquat Chaudhry.

The other office-bearers are; Dr Arshad Mubin Khan and Dr Syeda Asma Hasan (vice-presidents), Dr Naveed Mughal (joint secretary) and Dr Qaisar Mahmood Sheikh (finance secretary).

DACOITS HELD: Model Town police claimed on Saturday to have arrested three dacoits and recovered looted goods and illicit arms from them.

The police said the outlaws, identified as Kashif, Shakeel and Shahid, were dividing the loot in a graveyard, when a raiding party nabbed them.

The police recovered a stolen motorcycle, gold jewellry, mobile phones, cash and arms from their possession.

They were wanted in connection with several incidents of dacoities and robberies, the police added.
