QUETTA, Dec 30: Security forces on Friday allegedly attacked the residence of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and Dera Bugti town, leaving 17 people injured.

However, officials said that an exchange of fire took place when tribesmen occupied government buildings in which one wanted person was killed.

Meanwhile, two personnel of the Kalat Scouts were shot dead in Khuzdar district.

Speaking at a press conference here on Friday night, the four-party Baloch Alliance announced that opposition parties would take out a procession in Quetta on Saturday to protest against what they called an attack by security forces on Dera Bugti.

Agha Shahid Hasan Bugti of the Jamhoori Watan Party, Leader of Opposition in the provincial assembly Kachkol Ali and Habib Jalib Baloch of the Balochistan National Party-Mengal addressed the press conference.

Giving details, Mr Bugti said that at 11.30am security forces perched on surrounding mountains started firing at the house of Nawab Bugti and the Dera Bugti town and added that 250 shells were fired from artillery in the intermittent shooting that continued till 6pm.

He said that 17 civilians were injured in the attack.

In reply to a question, he said tribesmen did not return the fire.

Mr Jalib claimed that the government was extending its operation to other areas of the province and appealed to the human rights organizations and political parties to raise voice against the security forces.

Mr Kachkol Ali appreciated the concern expressed by India over the Balochistan situation. He urged the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and other international financial institutions not to lend money to Pakistan as the government misused these loans and purchased weapons that were being used against the civilian population of Balochistan.

On the other hand, District Coordination Officer Dera Bugti Abdul Samad Lasi said that armed tribesmen over the past few days had occupied buildings of Model School, social welfare department and the stadium and had established trenches inside their boundaries.

Talking to Dawn, he said that Nawab Bugti had been requested through district naib nazim Rafiq Bugti to ask the tribesmen to vacate the buildings but there was no response.

On Friday morning, he said, firing erupted between militiamen and tribesmen and the exchange continued for several hours in which one wanted criminal was killed and several other people were injured.

He said the government was ready to provide protection to Nawab Bugti if he so desired. He emphasized that Nawab Bugti should cooperate with the government to restore peace in the area.

SCOUTS KILLED: Meanwhile, two personnel of the Kalat Scouts, a wing of the Frontier Corps, were killed when unidentified armed men opened fire at them in Khuzdar.

Sources said that militiamen were travelling in a vehicle when some motorcyclists opened fire at the vehicle near the Khatan Bridge in which Scouts Kabir Ali and Azmatullah were killed.

Agencies add: Two rockets were fired on a security forces’ camp in Kohlu on Friday, officials said.

Frontier Corps spokesman Lt-Col Hassan Jamil said that rockets did not hit the target and landed near the camp.

In Sui town, tribesmen attacked an army post in Dolli area.

Besides, a bomb exploded at a grid station of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation in Hub Chowki on Thursday night, disrupting supply to Vinder, Uthal and Bela areas of Balochistan.

According to a KESC statement, the supply was restored early on Friday following repairs at the grid station.

A KESC spokesman said that the bomb targeted the 132kv Bay and the 40MVA Auto transformer but it did not cause any serious to grid equipment.

However, he said, the outer wall was badly shattered by the explosive placed by it.
