SWABI: The chairmen of Razaar, Chota Lahor and Topi tehsil councils, who belong to opposition parties, have demanded the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to immediately release funds to the local governments so they could serve the people of their respective areas.

In separate gatherings here on Sunday, they alleged that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf provincial government wanted to cripple the performance of tehsil chairmen belonging to the opposition parties.

They threatened to stage a protest demonstration in front of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly building if the funds were not released immediately.

Razaar tehsil chairman Ghulam Ahmad Haqqani, who had won the election on Awami National Party’s ticket, said that the delaying tactics of the PTI government to release funds would backfire as this money would be spent on the welfare of people.

Criticise govt for resorting to delaying tactics

Chota Lahor tehsil council chairman Adil Khan of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz said that they would expose the provincial government and the ruling party’s ill-planning. He threatened tolaunch a campaign to educate the people about the government’s negative designs to keep them deprived of their rights.

Topi tehsil council chairman Mohammed Rahim Jadoon of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl also called for release of uplift funds and said that the PTI leaders had been using negative tactics since defeat of their candidates in the local government elections.

ACADEMIA-INDUSTRY LINKAGE: Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology and Habib Bank Limited have inked a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance collaboration in the field of science and technology.

The MoU was signed by the bank’s president and chief executive officer Mohammad Aurangzeb and Prof Fazal Ahmad Khalid, Rector GIK Institute, during a ceremony held at the institute.

The MoU aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry; train and groom students of GIK Institute as per requirements of the banking and other industries.

The bank would impart basic know-how of emerging digital banking tools and their utilities, digitisation, basic knowledge of general banking regulations and products to students. It will also conduct mentoring and career counselling sessions with students.
