Parveen shatters record

ISLAMABAD, Dec 29: Parveen Akhtar of Wapda created a new mark on the first day of the two-day National Ranking Athletics meet at the Jinnah Stadium on Thursday.

The national ranking record was set with a throw of 44.40 that was considerably better than team-mate Maria Khan’s effort of 34.29.

The third place in the event also went to Wapda, Yasmeen Hafeez dispatching the javelin a distance of 33.39.

But it were the Army athletes who dominated the day winning seven out of the 15 events contested.

Army’s successes came in the 200m, 3000m steeplechase, long jump, shot put, 5000m and high jump.

Results:

Women’s 110m hurdles: Noshee Parveen 15.55, Fouzia Aurangzeb 16.51, Tasneem Akhtar 17.68.

Men’s 200m: Muhammad Imran 21.42, Afzal Baig 21.60, Muhammad Moazzam 22.80.

Women’s 200m: Sumaira Zahoor 25.67, Naila 30.81, Razia 31.49

Women’s long jump: Maryam Babar 4.91, Nadia Zulfiqar 4.32, Qaisara Batool 4.02

Men’s javelin throw: Muhammad Irfan 74.50, Zahid Hussain 69.70, Asif Ali 67.30

Women’s shot put: Zeenat Parveen 13.44, Nazia Butt 9.82, Nazia 8.32.

Men’s 400m hurdles: Haq Nawaz 52.09, Allah Ditta 52.58, Qaisar Shamshad 53.94

Men’s 800m: Arshad Fazal 1:52.63, Saeed Ahmad 1:53.91, Nasir Khan 1:54.91

Women’s 800m: Bushra Parveen 2:10.14, Gulnaz Ara 2:13.78, Rozina Shafqat 2:23.71

Men’s 3000m steeplechase: Safdar Nazir 9:24.43, Faiz Akbar 9:37.45, Ehsan Ali 9:37.67

Men’s long jump: Waseem Khan 7.60, Faiz Ahmed 7.20, M. Riaz 7.09
