LAKKI MARWAT: A policeman was martyred when miscreants opened fire on him here on Friday night, a police official said.

He said the martyred lower head constable Sadar Nawaz belonged to Wanda Shahabkhel village of Kurrum Par area and was settled in Michenkhel locality of Lakki city.

”After performing duty at the main gate of District Headquarters Complex, Tajazai, which houses government offices and police lines, the constable returned home in the evening. He came under attack when he was standing at a grocery shop,” the official said.

He said the constable sustained bullet wounds and was taken to the Government City Hospital.

The injured cop told the counter-terrorism department officials at the hospital that he was shopping at the grocery shop when a banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan commander, namely Azharuddin, along with an accomplice came there and opened fire on him. He said after firing the attackers fled the place on a motorcycle.

The official said the wounded policeman later succumbed to injuries at the hospital. He said that a police contingent reached the attack site and launched a search for assailants.

Meanwhile, the martyred policeman was laid to rest at a graveyard in his native village with official honour.

SP investigations Shafiq Khan Wazir and other police officials attended his funeral prayers offered at the Tajazai Police Lines.
