DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Justice Faheem Wali of the Peshawar High Court’s Dera Ismail Khan Bench on Saturday quashed the bail application of Anita Bibi, wife of slain Awami National Party leader Umar Khattak Sherani, in his murder case.

Mr Sherani, who was a candidate for Dera city mayor, was shot dead in the Model Town area on the night before the local government elections. The police had arrested Ms Anita, the third wife of the slain; and two others. During investigation, the suspects had confessed to the murder.

Ms Anita, who was the prime suspect in her husband’s murder, had filed a petition with the Peshawar High Court for her release after her bail application was rejected by a lower court.

Also on Saturday, Justice Faheem Wali granted transit bail to PTI leader Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur in seven cases registered against him.

Meanwhile, the finance department has released Rs20 million for payment of salaries to the employees of Dera tehsil municipal administrations.

The finance department has also approved Rs250 million for repair of the Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC).

An official letter issued to this effect on Saturday stated that the finance department had agreed to release further funds of Rs250 million out of its share as per cost-sharing agreement for onward payment to Wapda for restoration of CRBC.
