NORTH WAZIRISTAN: Five security personnel were wounded in a suicide attack in Mirali area of North Waziristan tribal district on Thursday, officials have said.

The attack in Mirali took place when soldiers patrolling the area were targeted by a suicide bomber who rammed his motorcycle into their vehicle near Nowrek village, officials added.

The attack left five soldiers injured who were moved to a hospital in Mirali town. Meanwhile, security forces cordoned off the area and a search operation was in progress.

This was the second attack on the security forces in the area during the past one month. On October 23, a suicide bomber attacked a convoy in Mirali in which 21 soldiers were wounded.

TTP claims responsibility

Meanwhile, the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for an attack on a police station in Raghzai area of Lower Waziristan on Tuesday night, saying it had also abducted 15 policemen.

TTP spokesperson Muhammad Khurasani said army troops were their main target and warned that the police should avoid confronting them.

Two constables were martyred and two others injured when terrorists attacked the police station with light and heavy weapons, including rockets, officials said. Police officials have been forced to vacate the building as the attack left it uninhabitable, DPO Atiqullah Wazir told the media in Wana on Thursday.
