TOBA TEK SINGH: Scores of industrial workers on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration outside the Faisalabad Social Security Directorate complex during the visit of Punjab Social Security Commissioner Ms Ambreen Sajid.

The workers protested inordinate delay in inquiry into the death of a worker, Zohaib Hassan, at the textile mills on Aug 19. They alleged he died as a result of apathy of doctors and nurses of the Faisalabad Social Security Hospital, Madina Town.

They also protested non issuance of social security cards to the industrial and kiln workers.

Later, Ms Ambreen held talks with a delegation of the protesting workers led by Labour Qaumi Movement Chairman Baba Latif Insari and informed them she had received the inquiry report, pledging action against those found guilty within a couple of days.

The delegation told the commissioner that out of total one million industrial workers in Faisalabad district, only 200,000 were registered and cards had been issued to only 132,000 workers. The commissioner promised that all the remaining registered workers would be issued social security cards before Nov 30.

MEETING: A meeting of Faisalabad District Agricultural Advisory Committee was briefed on the steps being taken for the welfare of farmers.

Held under the chairmanship of DC Imran Hamid Sheikh, the meeting was briefed by Agriculture Extension Deputy Director Khalid Mehmood.

The DC said the scope of the training programme aimed at creating awareness among the farmers should be expanded, and more steps should be taken to guide them.

He ordered legal action against those selling adulterated pesticides, besides monitoring of fertilisers prices. He also ordered arrest of those involved in canal water theft.
