Protesters gather in front of Timergara Press Club, Lower Dir, on Monday. — Dawn

LOWER DIR: Residents of Qillagai Siar Dara area here on Monday demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief to ensure arrest of the killers of a local youth in Mardan the other day.

The demand was raised at a protest demonstration, and later by political leaders and area elders while speaking at a press conference.

A youth identified as Rahimuddin was killed and his brother, Waqasuddin was injured when passengers in a Timergara-bound coach scuffled after arguments on the political situation in the country.

One of the passengers, following heated arguments with the deceased, called his relatives, who stopped the van and shot dead the youth and injured his brother. The deceased and his brother are stated to be the PTI workers.

The youth was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Siar Dara here on Monday. The incident sparked anger among the residents, who took to the streets and demanded of the police to arrest the killers within the next 48 hours.

Special assistant to chief minister on prisons, MPA Shafiullah Khan, Jamaat-i-Islami youth wing district president Ateequr Rehman, PTI activist Kashif Kamal, PPP activist Fazal Hussain and others spoke to the protesters outside the press club.

While speaking at a separate news conference, former provincial minister Muzafar Said, PPP district information secretary Alam Zeb Advocate, JI Timergara city chief Noor Rehman Saghir and others termed the incident as a terror act, and demanded.

CONDOLENCE: Lower Dir chapter of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl on Monday announced it planned a condolence conference for its leader Qazi Abdul Salam on Nov 24.

The announcement was made during a meeting held here with -F tehsil emir Mufti Bakht Sardar in the chair.

Party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and other central leaders would also address the conference.

Also in the day, additional assistant commissioner, Adenzai, Nasar Ali on Monday got arrested the contractor for using substandard material in the construction of retaining wall of Chakdara Bypass Road.

SACKED: District education officer (male) Mohammad Amin has removed from service 13 Class-IV employees for skipping duties.

In a letter, he said the sacked employees were found willfully and habitually absenting duties.

It said the employees had left the schools unwatched and unprotected during the flood emergency.
