SUKKUR: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Sunday arrived here to preside over a meeting on law and order in the riverine areas of the province and discussed with the top provincial police officers a strategy to eliminate outlaws operating there.
The meeting was held at Sukkur DIG’s office and was attended by Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, DIGs of Sukkur and Larkana ranges and the SSPs concerned. Sukkur commissioner and deputy commissioner were also present.
Senator Jam Mehtab Dahar, MNA Nauman Islam Shaikh and MPA Farrukh Shah specially attended the meeting.
The CM directed the IGP to form a ‘riverine police force’ and establish permanent police stations with a sizeable force in these areas.
Mr Shah said that his government would provide land for the permanent police stations and asked the provincial police chief to submit a proposal for the grant of ‘katcha area allowance’ to those policemen who would be posted in these areas. The CM also decided that preference would be given to locals in the recruitment of the proposed force.
The CM was informed that three young boys had been kidnapped by outlaws in Ghotki district recently. The police were preparing to take action against outlaws and to recover the hostages before the attack was carried out.
Mr Shah said that a detailed proposal for the procurement of armoured personnel carriers (APCs) should also be submitted.
The CM also sought a detailed proposal for fixing head-money for the outlaws involved in kidnapping for ransom and killings in the katcha areas of Sukkur and Larkana divisions.
“There must be some people supplying weapons to the dacoits living in the katcha areas,” he said. It was a big question that how the outlaws were getting weapons, who were supplying them weapons and how all this was being managed, he said.
Mr Shah directed the police to work out a strategy to cut off or block supply line of weapons to outlaws.
At the outset of the meeting, CM Shah offered dua for the martyred police officers and personnel and also prayed for the early recovery of the injured ones.
After the meeting, CM Shah and IGP Memon proceeded to the residence of Abdul Malik Kamangar on Station Road in Sukkur and offered their condolences to the bereaved family.
The chief minister pledged to extend all possible assistance to them as soon as possible.
The CM and IGP then visited the Sukkur Civil Hospital to inquire about the health of injured policemen.
