BAJAUR: Speakers at a study circle held here on Wednesday called for reopening all the border points with Afghanistan to help boost trade activities in the tribal districts.

The event titled ‘significance of bilateral trade in socioeconomic development of tribal districts’ was held at the Government Postgraduate College, Khar. It was arranged by Pakhtun Students Federation (PSF), a student wing of Awami National Party.

Besides students, several ANP local leaders and scholars attended the event.

Historian Maulana Khan Zeb and PSF provincial president Achak Khan Achakzai were the guest speakers.

ANP district president Gul Afzal Khan, general secretary Nisar Baz Khan, Syed Sadiq Akbar, Sakhi Bahadur, Hazrat Akbar and others spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of trade with Afghanistan for socioeconomic uplift of people in tribal districts.

The speakers said resumption of trade with the neighbouring country was also imperative for forging friendly relations between the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The speakers, however, noted that border routes in tribal districts had been closed since 2007 owing to security reasons.

The speakers called the prolonged closure of border points in Bajaur unjustified even after restoration of peace in the region. They urged the relevant authorities to reopen the border points without delay.
