KARACHI: Police have registered an attempted mutiny case against scores of activists of different nationalist parties and civil society organisations for raising what they called objectionable slogans against national institutions during a protest over lynching of two telecom workers in Machhar Colony.

On Sunday, a large number of people gathered in front of the Karachi Press Club to attend a demonstration against the lynching incident.

An FIR lodged on behalf of the state at the Artillery Maidan police station stated that around 180 to 200 protesters belonging to the Sindh Sabha Party, Sindh United Party, Sujagi Forum Karachi and others held a protest outside the KPC and chanted incendiary slogans.

The case was registered under Sections 131 (Abetting mutiny or attempting to seduce soldier from his duty), 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riots) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Meanwhile, the SUP condemned registration of a criminal case against its leaders.
