BAHAWALPUR: The Uch Sharif police foiled an attempt of the marriage of an underage girl with a 55-year-old man at Mohallah Bukhari and arrested five people on Tuesday.

According to DPO’s PRO Aamir Nazir, nikah of 14-year-old Alishah was done with 55-year-old Abdul Qadir against her will about 20 days back.

According to Alishah, her father had to pay debt to Abdul Qadir and was unable to pay back the money. At this, Abdul Qadir demanded the hand of Alishah whose nikah was solemnised with a promise her rukhsati would take place three years later. But, according to the statement of Alishah, her so-called in-laws came with a marriage party last night and forced her father for rukhsati. Police got a tip-off, rushed to the site and arrested AbdulQadir, his father, a cousin, two witnesses and Nikah Khwan”.

DANCE PARTY: The Lodhran Saddar police booked over 20 people, including five nominated for allegedly organizing a dance party where participants fired into the air and violated the Punjab Sound System (Prohibition) Act.

Police claimed to have arrested five nominated persons, namely Muhammad Sufian, Muhammad Shehzad,Mazhar ,Nadeem and Muhammad Arshad.

BETTING: The Lodhran City police claimed to have arrested a man on charge of online betting through the Betpro app and recovered a mobile phone from him.

According to police, a case under the Gambling Act was registered against the suspect, identified as one Muneeb, on Oct 23, the day the cricket match was played between Pakistan and India in the T20 World Cup. However, he could not be arrested then.

Meanwhile, Dunyapur police busted a robbers’ gang. Police arrested two members and recovered stolen property and valuables worth over Rs12m from their possession.

KILLED: A rickshaw driver was killed when a speeding bus hit his three-wheeler on the Mailsi Road near Khairpur Tamewali, 45km from here.

The deceased, identified as s Allah Bakhsh, was travelling near Adda Kachi Pakki with his three-wheeler in vegetables on Mailsi Road when the bus hit his rickshaw and rammed into a roadside hotel.

Allah Bakhsh was killed while the people in the hotel remained unhurt.
